$100 Billion for AI: Construction Begins on One of the World’s Largest Data Centers in the U.S.

The United States continues to make massive investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. A new AI data center campus, valued at $100 billion, is set to be built in the state of Kentucky, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in the world.

The campus will be located on the site of the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. The project is being developed by Brookfield Asset Management and NextEra Energy in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy.

According to preliminary plans, the AI data center will deliver up to 1.8 GW of computing power, placing it among the world’s largest AI facilities. To ensure uninterrupted operations, the project will also include its own energy infrastructure, featuring a 2 GW natural gas power plant and a 2.6 GW battery energy storage system.

Construction is expected to begin in the near future. The first phase of the campus is scheduled to become operational in 2028, while the entire project is expected to be completed by 2032.

The investment reflects the rapidly growing demand for AI infrastructure. As generative AI technologies continue to evolve, leading technology companies are investing not only in AI models but also in the high-performance data centers required to train and run them. This project is expected to become one of the key pillars of the next generation of AI computing in the United States.
